I have discussed and shown my final piece plans to a few of my peers and also family who have seen me working on it. Overall i have recieved positive feedback- one main thing that had been said is that it isn't clear what the piece is showing when you first look at it. I don't think this is a particularily negative thing as i wouldn't want my work to be obvious however i think that for viewers to fully understand my personal meanings behind my final piece, they would have to look at my sketchbooks and journal

Boxes
I looked at Jospeh Cornell during my collections project, as i was interested in the way he used boxes to hold objects and create compositions. I remembered him as an artist i wanted to use in the future and found his work to be very helpful in developing my final piece plan. I know that i want to use this idea of confinement and so it makes sense to draw from my dolls house research and combine it with the way Cornell puts together compositions within a box.

I liked how it seems you would have to peer into Cornells box on the right. I took this aspect and thought about it whilst creating my basic house. I created each individual piece that went into the house using wood, plasics and found materials. I attempted to create as much detail with the furnishings as possible in the time i had as i wanted the viewer to have to look inside to gain a better perspective of the piece. I want the piece to appear 'normal' at first, however when payed more attention is actually quite unusual- hopefully making the viewer intrigued and wonder what is being presented.

Katerina Šedá
At the beginning of the Final Major Project i visited an exhibition in Sheffield Millenium Galleries. I was particularily excited to see the work of Katerina Šedá as i had read that her work touches on ideas of community, memory and collective identity. In the past many of my own projects have centered around very similar themes. The exhibition had wide and tall boards covered with grids of paper. Each sheet displays one simple sketch created using different methods. Each sketch is of a persons profile, all of them similar yet very different at the same time.
"Many of us experience disconnection. Walking around city centres, passing hundreds of stranger’s faces without second glances. Overlooking faces; fascinating with expression, lines and stories. As an artist and human being I want more connection. To learn I want to connect, to interact. So I was excited to explore the latest exhibition at the Millennium Galleries ‘Lisen Profile’ by Katerina Seda. A social art project attempting to reconnect a community broken by modern infrastructure.
Twenty years ago her hometown of Lisen was divided when the central meeting point was replaced by a supermarket and major road, depleting a local sense of community. Lisen Profile is Seda’s process to reconnect people together with the place, encouraging a greater sense of community. Over 500 participants followed the same guidelines. You would make a profile of the town’s landscape including the town’s church in the skyline, using whatever medium, pencil, clay, paint etc. Then find a persons profile in the horizon your drawing. You take this profile to the streets of lisen, where you search for a face that resembles it. The drawing’s soul mate. Then you connect with this person, confirm they live in lisen and draw their profile in black ink. After this the profiles are turned horizontal so they resemble a horizon again."

Mona Hatoum
I came across Mona Hatoum's work as i was researching artists who had used boxes and objects in there work which encased other elements. I was drawn to these images below, they reminded me of the 'cosyness' in a home which led me to think about rooms in a home. Situated in darkened room the piece 'Current Disturbance' is made up of stacked wire cages and flickering light bulbs. With the lights flickering on and off together combined with the darkess and a loud discordent buzzing, the piece has been described as "like being at an industrial miminalist techno party".
The Dark- Lygophobia
Here is the dark video i made. After talking to a friend who has an intense fear of the dark, I took note of what they were saying and noticed that it wasn't so much the dark that they feared, as it was what might be in the dark (fear if the unknown). I did this in attempt to demonstrate a persons fear refering back to what they had told me.
